Madrid\/Sevilla 26 oct.- The mayor of Seville, Juan Espadas (PSOE), has met with the Secretary of State of the Government of Spain for the European Union, Juan Gonz\u00e1lez-Barba Pera, to whom he has presented some of the projects he intends to be financed with the Recovery Fund.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As reported by the City Council of Seville in a statement, the municipal government has already prepared investment projects awaiting funding for housing rehabilitation, transformation of the energy model and promotion of digitization, as well as actions to develop a sustainable mobility model.<\/p>\n

These initiatives, which the City Council has already prepared, are included within the objectives and priorities established for this reactivation program, such as housing, energy transformation, digitalization and sustainable mobility.<\/p>\n

“Cities have ahead of us a great opportunity through this fund to access European funding for the development of strategic projects that also generate employment and economic activity,” stressed Espadas in a statement.<\/p>\n

He assured that the City of Seville has already “much of the work done and projects ready for approval,” and has highlighted the “unanimity” in the municipal Corporation and among the main social and economic actors around the priorities for the city at this time.<\/p>\n

These priorities are included in the agreements of the municipal commission of economic and social revival and employment promotion and in the alliance signed within the framework of the commission of the Strategic Plan Sevilla 2030.<\/p>\n

In this sense, the alderman has moved the Secretary of State that cities must have “a leading role” in the promotion of these European funding projects, so that it can contribute from the municipalities “decisively” to the necessary transformations and reactivation to the health crisis by covid 19.<\/p>\n

The mayor has also used this meeting to request the support of the Government of Spain for the project of the new headquarters of the Joint Research Center of the European Union, which is projected in the Science and Technology Park Cartuja and now begins a process for its design through an international architectural competition.
